Property Assessment, Mapping and Monitoring

A good management plan starts with a clear understanding of the property. We combine field assessment with mapping and ongoing monitoring so landowners can see what they have, where the priorities are and how the property changes over time.

Property Assessment and Planning

We walk the property and review timber, habitat, roads, trails, drainage, firebreaks and invasive plants. We also look at previous management work and how the land is currently being used. The owner's goals guide the assessment.

From there, we identify immediate needs and longer-term opportunities. Recommendations may cover forestry, habitat improvement, access, prescribed fire, wildlife management or invasive-plant control. The work can then be organized by priority, season and budget.

Mapping, GIS Analysis and Monitoring

Field observations are supported with GPS data, GIS analysis and property mapping. Maps may include roads, trails, timber stands, burn units, treatment areas, water features and habitat types.

Our FAA Part 107-certified drone operators can also complete thermal drone surveys, mast-producing tree and crop mapping, wildlife-use analysis and hunting-stand location identification. We can evaluate stand locations based on access, prevailing wind, terrain, travel corridors and surrounding habitat.

Monitoring may track planting survival, invasive-plant response, timber conditions, wildlife activity or completed management work. Records can be updated as projects move forward, giving the landowner a useful history of the property.
